Typical Projects

Good Morning America - Coordinated all telecommunications for ABC Good Morning America show broadcast from sites throughout Alaska.

Fiber Optic Transmission System - Designed fiber optic transmission systems for distance learning and interoffice transmission applications and hydroelectric plant SCADA, using self-supporting, direct buried and underground fiber optic cables and a variety of fiber optic terminal equipment.

Survivable Ring Networks - Designed 45 Mbps metropolitan area network using a fiber optic ring topology for the Federal Aviation Administration, Alaska Region, which covered all air traffic control facilities in the Anchorage area.

Digital Earth Stations - Assisted with the design of a digital satellite earth station network of about 200 nodes for the FAA Alaska Region. This network links all air traffic control facilities in the State of Alaska.

Networks and Switching - Designed and was responsible for implementing a large number of different telecommunication networks and switching systems for FAA Alaska Region. A typical project consisted of a multipoint polled network of 40 nodes for automated weather observing systems interconnected with the National Weather Service in Kansas City. Designed numerous Wide Area and Local Area Networks (WAN, LAN) and interfaces for local exchange carriers throughout Alaska.

Signaling System No. 7 - Design and implementation responsibility for Service Switching Points (SSP) and designed Signaling System No. 7 network transition projects and test plans for converting an Interexchange Carrier's Alaska network to SS7 and 800 number portability. This project included interconnecting and testing Signaling Transfer Points (STP) and Service Control Points (SCP). Designed numerous conversions of local exchange carrier end office switching systems to SS7, including SS7 link design, test and implementation.

Fixed Wireless Engineering - Designed numerous microwave, VHF and UHF point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radiotelephone systems in virtually every part of Alaska for local exchange carriers including propagation path engineering, tower design, and interfaces to the Public Switched Telephone Network.

Mobile Wireless Engineering - Provided engineering support services to cellular service providers in Alaska, including licensing, microwave radio backbone design, site selection, buildings, towers and powering, coverage analysis and radio path studies.

Digital Subscriber Line - Provided engineering support services to local exchange carriers that are deploying Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) technologies, including full rate ADSL and G.Lite, for Internet access.  These projects include evaluation and selection of DSL Access Multiplexers (DSLAM) and subscriber modem products, routers and Internet uplink methodologies.

Engineer of Record - Engineer for several local exchange carriers in Alaska providing specialized engineering services for the continual growth and upgrade of rural telephone systems. Typical work includes application of digital transmission and switching systems, optical fiber networks, and analog and digital radio systems in arctic and subarctic areas.

Audit and Inventory - Prepared a complete inventory of all telecommunications on Anchorage International Airport, audited billing records and prepared recommendations for allocation of telecommunications spaces on the airport. Designed Private Automatic Exchange for airport services.
